The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Space42 have signed an agreement to build the UAE’s first integrated space-to-ground quantum communication network, marking a major leap in the country’s push for sovereign, ultra-secure digital infrastructure. Signed during the Dubai Airshow, the partnership will combine satellite and terrestrial systems using UAE-developed Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology to enable highly secure data links between space and Earth.
The project covers research and development, payload creation, satellite integration and ground infrastructure, with the goal of designing, testing and validating a space-based QKD system. The network is intended to strengthen national cyber resilience, support critical infrastructure protection and position the UAE as a global leader in quantum-secure communications. “This collaboration with Space42 represents an important milestone in the UAE’s quantum journey. Together, we are building the foundations of a national quantum communication network that strengthens the UAE’s cyber resilience and sovereignty,” said Najwa Aaraj, Chief Executive Officer of TII.
Moreover, Ali Al Hashemi, the CEO of Space Services at Space42, said the project aligns with the company’s ambition to lead in non-terrestrial network solutions. “By integrating our satellite systems with TII’s QKD technology, we are advancing secure, quantum communications from concept to capability,” explained Al Hashemi. Through joint technical coordination, steering committees and knowledge exchange, the partners aim to accelerate sovereign innovation, develop national talent and establish the UAE as a hub for next-generation quantum communication systems.
